On October 16, 1888, George Lusk, Freemason and head of the Whitechapel Vigilance Committee , received a small parcel containing half a human kidney, preserved in wine, with this letter:
From hell,
Mr Lusk,
Sir I send you half the Kidne I took from one woman and prasarved it for you tother piece I fried and ate it was very nise I may send you the bloody knif that took it out if you only wate a chil longer
signed Catch me when you can Mishter Lusk
Dr. Openshaw, Pathological Curator of the London Hospital Museum, examined and found the kidney to be similar to the one removed from the body of Catherine Eddowes and it also was in an advanced state of Bright's disease; findings were inconclusive though and he later denied the above statement.
